The Ethos Guide to Milan Fashion Week

The Ethos Guide to Milan Fashion Week

Where to eat, drink, see art and stay out late when you’re in Milan for Fashion Week.

There is Milan, and then there is Milan during Fashion Week.

For one week, the city seems to move differently. Brera tables fill before aperitivo has technically begun, black cars line the streets outside palazzi you didn't realize were venues, and everyone appears to be heading somewhere important—usually very quickly, and in very good shoes.

For Spring/Summer 2027, Milan Fashion Week takes over the city from September 22–28, bringing the usual collision of designers, editors, buyers, models, photographers and people who somehow look immaculate after twelve hours of shows. This year has an extra reason to be in the centre of it all: Vogue World: Milano opens the week at the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II on September 22.

But Fashion Week doesn't end when the last model leaves the runway. Some of the best parts happen in between: an espresso before the first show, lunch squeezed between appointments, an hour disappearing into a gallery, aperitivo that becomes dinner and dinner that quietly becomes 2 a.m.

Consider this the Ethos address book for the week—the places worth knowing when you want to see Milan at its most stylish.

FOR COFFEE, PASTRIES & THE HOURS BETWEEN SHOWS

Marchesi 1824

If Milan had an official Fashion Week pastry, it would probably come in a pistachio-green box.

Founded in 1824 and now owned by Prada Group, Marchesi 1824 manages to be polished without becoming precious. Think marble counters, jewel-box interiors, tiny pastries and an espresso consumed standing at the bar because there is somewhere else you were supposed to be ten minutes ago.

The original Via Santa Maria alla Porta location has nearly two centuries of history behind it, while the Via Montenapoleone outpost places you directly in the fashion district. Vogue's editors still count Marchesi among their essential Milan stops.

Go for: espresso, pastries and a very Milanese start to the day.

Pasticceria Sissi

Less polished fashion set, more if you know, you know. Pasticceria Sissi is loved for its pastries, warm interiors and little courtyard, and feels refreshingly removed from the luxury-hotel circuit.

Come early, order something filled with crema and accept that breakfast may take longer than planned. Vogue's Milan editors single it out simply for its cakes and pastries—which, frankly, is enough.

Go for: a slower morning before the schedule takes over.

Pasticceria Cova

For old Milan glamour, go to Cova.

Sitting on Via Montenapoleone since the 1950s—although the institution itself dates to 1817—Cova is polished, traditional and deeply embedded in the ritual of the Quadrilatero. It's the kind of place that makes having coffee and a tiny pastry feel like a proper appointment. Vogue continues to include it among Milan's classic addresses.

Go for: coffee between boutiques and unapologetically classic Milan.

Orsonero Coffee

When another gilded pastry shop feels like too much, Orsonero is the reset.

Minimal, modern and serious about coffee, it has a completely different energy from Milan's historic cafés. Come for an actually good flat white, stay for approximately as long as it takes to regain consciousness after the previous night's afterparty.

Go for: the coffee, obviously.

Égalité

Paris by way of Milan. Égalité brings French boulangerie energy into the city with baguettes, croissants and pastries in a space that feels clean, contemporary and easy.

It's a particularly good Fashion Week stop because sometimes what you need isn't another three-course lunch. It's a croissant and fifteen uninterrupted minutes.

Bar Luce

A café designed by Wes Anderson inside Fondazione Prada was always going to make the list.

Pastel Formica furniture, terrazzo, retro jukeboxes and a very deliberate 1950s-Milan mood make Bar Luce one of the rare heavily photographed places that is still genuinely fun to visit.

Don't come all the way here only for coffee, though. Pair it with the Fondazione and make an afternoon of it.

Go for: espresso after art, preferably with no urgent plans immediately afterward.

FOR LUNCHES THAT TURN INTO DINNER

Langosteria

There are places you visit because they're new, and places you return to because they simply work. Langosteria belongs firmly in the second category.

Seafood is the reason to come—oysters, raw fish, lobster, beautifully simple pasta—but the room is just as much part of the equation. Fashion Week lunch here feels glamorous without needing to announce itself. Vogue's editors describe it as a Milan non-negotiable for long lunches and dinners.

Go for: a long lunch when you've strategically left a suspiciously large gap in the schedule.

Langosteria Montenapoleone

Vesta

Brera, seafood, low lighting, beautiful people: Vesta understands the assignment.

The restaurant has the polished, contemporary atmosphere you want during Fashion Week without feeling like you've wandered into a corporate hotel dining room. It's equally convincing for dinner or for starting the night somewhere you may not particularly want to leave.

Go for: dinner that transitions very naturally into drinks.

Milan. Welcome to Vesta, a posh fish restaurant and cocktail bar in the Brera district. ALPI Amara Ebony contributes hugely to enriching the atmosphere with drama. The striped wood is coated with

Casa Fiori Chiari

Hidden into one of Brera's prettiest streets, Casa Fiori Chiari feels almost purpose-built for Fashion Week.

There is something particularly good about eating outside here as the neighbourhood shifts from late afternoon into aperitivo—the cobblestones, people passing between appointments, everyone lingering slightly longer than they intended.

Go for: a Brera lunch or early dinner with maximum people-watching potential.

Dal Bolognese

When you've had enough of restaurants designed exclusively to look good on Instagram, go somewhere that already knows exactly what it is.

Dal Bolognese is old-school Milanese glamour: white tablecloths, proper service, rich Emilian cooking and the sort of room where lunch can become a three-hour affair without anyone questioning it.

Go for: tagliatelle, tortellini and a Fashion Week power lunch without the startup energy.

Dal Bolognese si ferma per qualche giorno di riposo estivo! Un momento per ricaricare le energie e tornare, presto, con la stessa passione di sempre. Ci rivediamo tra poco ✨ #DalBolognese #Roma #

Giacomo Bistrot

Few rooms understand maximalist Milan quite like Giacomo Bistrot.

Bookshelves, patterned textiles, dark wood and tightly packed tables make it feel more like the private library of a very chic eccentric than a restaurant. Romantic, theatrical and just formal enough.

Go for: dinner when minimalism has become boring.

Trattoria della Gloria

For something cooler, younger and less polished around the edges, Gloria is the move.

A traditional trattoria reimagined around seasonal cooking and natural wine, it feels intimate and alive rather than overly designed. Vogue's current Milan guide calls out its inventive menu, biodynamic bottles and convivial atmosphere.

Go for: natural wine and the friend who always knows the good restaurant before everyone else does.

Paper Moon Giardino

A Milan fashion-world classic for a reason.

Hidden behind a palazzo near Via Montenapoleone, Paper Moon Giardino gives you greenery, elegant interiors and the feeling that half the tables are discussing collections, appointments or something under NDA.

Go for: lunch in the middle of the fashion district.

Da Giacomo

The seafoam-green walls alone have probably appeared on more moodboards than some runway collections.

But Da Giacomo isn't surviving on aesthetics. It's an enduring Milan institution with seafood, traditional Italian dishes and an old-world room that still feels glamorous.

Go for: timeless rather than trending.

FOR APERITIVO & DRINKS

Aperitivo in Milan isn't the warm-up. It is the plan.

Portrait Milano

If you only have time for one fashionable aperitivo, Portrait Milano makes a convincing case.

The hotel occupies a former 16th-century seminary hidden just behind Corso Venezia, with an enormous colonnaded piazza at its centre. The result feels impossibly calm considering you're sitting in the middle of Fashion Week.

Head to 10_11 for drinks, find a table outside if the weather cooperates and watch the courtyard slowly fill.

Go for: the Fashion Week golden hour.

N'Ombra de Vin

Brera after dark deserves its own category, and N'Ombra de Vin is one of the reasons why.

Part wine bar, part cellar, part permanent Milan social scene, it's lively without feeling manufactured. Grab a glass, stand outside and let the evening decide what happens next.

Go for: wine, crowds and the possibility of abandoning your original dinner reservation.

N'Ombra de Vin | FLAWLESS.life - The Lifestyle Guide

Bar Basso

The drink is a Negroni Sbagliato. The oversized glass is practically compulsory.

Bar Basso is one of those places where design, fashion and Milan nightlife have overlapped for decades. It famously gave birth to the Sbagliato, and the fashion and design worlds continue to descend on it when they're in town.

It isn't sleek. That's precisely the point.

Go for: one Sbagliato. Potentially several bad decisions afterward.

The World's Best Bar Is a 79-Year-Old Milan Legend

Ceresio 7

Rooftop pools, sunset, the Milan skyline and the fashion headquarters of Dsquared2 downstairs.

Ceresio 7 isn't subtle, but subtle isn't always what Fashion Week requires. Arrive while there's still light and stay through aperitivo.

Go for: sunset and a reason to actually wear the outfit you packed.

Camparino in Galleria

Some addresses are cool because they're new. Camparino is cool because it has been doing this since 1915.

Under the soaring glass of the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, this is Milanese aperitivo in its most ceremonial form: polished bartenders, Campari, Art Nouveau interiors and more than a century of history. Vogue describes it as a pilgrimage for Negroni lovers.

And with Vogue World taking over the Galleria this Fashion Week, there may be no more appropriate week to order one.

Go for: a Campari before dinner and the full Milan fantasy.

Onda Listening Bar

When you're ready for Milan to feel a little less polished, go to Onda.

A proper listening bar built around music rather than spectacle, Onda has selectors, vinyl and the sort of low-lit room where ordering another drink seems considerably more sensible than going home. It's currently open Tuesday through Saturday until 2 a.m.

Go for: good sound, low lighting and the beginning of a late night.

FOR ART, DESIGN & SOMETHING OTHER THAN CLOTHES

Because there are only so many collections one brain can process in a day.

Fondazione Prada

Even during Fashion Week, make time.

Fondazione Prada is less an afternoon museum visit and more its own little universe: Rem Koolhaas architecture, contemporary exhibitions, cinema, Bar Luce and Torre all occupying the former distillery complex.

The best plan is also the easiest:

Fondazione Prada → Bar Luce → Torre.

See the exhibition. Have an espresso. Stay for a drink or dinner.

Milan - Fondazione Prada

Nilufar Depot

If your camera roll is roughly 40% fashion and 60% interiors, go here.

Nilufar Depot occupies a vast former silverware factory filled with collectible furniture and contemporary design. It's theatrical, strange and impeccably curated—the sort of place that makes you reconsider every chair you've ever owned.

Vogue's editors call Nilufar a must for anyone interested in design.

Rossana Orlandi

Part gallery, part design wonderland, part Milanese fever dream.

Rossana Orlandi occupies a former tie factory and moves between collectible design, art and emerging talent. Wander through the courtyard and rooms without trying too hard to understand where the gallery ends and everything else begins.

10 Corso Como

Before every city had a concept store, Milan had 10 Corso Como.

Founded by Carla Sozzani, the space blurred fashion, photography, design, books, food and art long before "concept" became retail's favourite word. Come for the gallery and bookstore; inevitably stay longer.

Vogue's PhotoVogue guide continues to count it among the city's essential art-and-design destinations.

Armani/Silos

Fashion Week is perhaps the best possible excuse to spend an hour inside a fashion archive.

Housed in a converted granary, Armani/Silos traces decades of Giorgio Armani's work in a space almost as restrained and precise as the clothes themselves.

Pinacoteca di Brera

Yes, you're here for Fashion Week. Go look at a Caravaggio anyway.

The Pinacoteca di Brera holds works by Raphael, Mantegna, Caravaggio and other Italian masters in the heart of one of Milan's most beautiful neighbourhoods.

And if you want something less expected, add Pinacoteca Ambrosiana to the list. Its collection includes Leonardo da Vinci drawings and Caravaggio, and Vogue's editors recently called it one of Milan's overlooked cultural gems.

AFTER DARK

Fashion Week nightlife is less about finding the club and more about knowing where the night is moving.

Brand dinners become parties. Parties become afterparties. Someone knows someone who knows where everyone is going next. Plans made at 7 p.m. are largely ceremonial.

Still, a few addresses are useful to know.

Ronin

Ronin is built for nights without a clear ending.

Japanese food, cocktails, multiple spaces and a darker, more cinematic atmosphere make it equally good for dinner, drinks or that point in the night where everyone agrees to "just have one more."

VOLT

For when drinks are officially over and going home has been rejected.

VOLT is slick, electronic and properly late-night—the club to have in your back pocket when Fashion Week becomes Fashion Morning.

The Sanctuary Milan

A little less conventional and more transportive, The Sanctuary mixes music, cocktails, food, art and an almost Balearic atmosphere.

It's the choice for the night when you want something more interesting than velvet ropes and bottle service.

Onda

And yes, we're putting Onda here twice.

Some places earn it.

THE NEIGHBOURHOODS TO KNOW

You don't always need a reservation. Sometimes the best Fashion Week plan is simply knowing where to walk.

Brera is the obvious starting point. Cobblestones, galleries, restaurants, design stores and aperitivo tables spill into one another, and by early evening the entire neighbourhood feels like one extended pre-dinner gathering.

Quadrilatero della Moda is Fashion Week at full volume: Via Montenapoleone, Via della Spiga, Via Sant'Andrea and the surrounding streets. Come for the flagships and showrooms; stay for some of the best accidental street-style watching of the week.

Porta Venezia feels younger and more eclectic, with independent shops, bars and nightlife mixed among ornate Milanese architecture.

Tortona and Navigli bring a more industrial, creative energy—studios, galleries, Armani/Silos and eventually drinks along the canals.

And then there is the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II, which deserves particular attention this year. Vogue World: Milano takes over the historic Galleria on the first da of fashion week, turning one of Milan's most recognisable landmarks into the opening stage of Fashion Week.

IF YOU ONLY HAVE ONE PERFECT FASHION WEEK DAY

Start early at Marchesi. Espresso, pastry, sunglasses—even if the weather doesn't technically require them.

Walk through the Quadrilatero, then disappear into Brera for a late lunch at Vesta or Casa Fiori Chiari.

Spend the afternoon at Fondazione Prada, followed by an espresso at Bar Luce.

Return to the centre as the light starts to change and have aperitivo in the courtyard at Portrait Milano.

Dinner at Langosteria if you're feeling polished; Gloria if you're feeling cooler.

Then Onda for music and drinks.

And if someone asks whether you want to go somewhere else afterward?

You're in Milan for Fashion Week.

Obviously, you go.

Fashion Week can make Milan feel impossibly fast, but the city is best when you resist rushing through all of it. Order the second coffee. Walk through Brera instead of taking the car. Look at the art. Stay at dinner longer than planned. Have the Campari.

The shows may be the reason everyone came to Milan.

Everything that happens between them is why you'll want to come back.
